A Roadrunner in Glasgow?

Karen Dockstader

Flying in from the home of the Roadrunner, Karen Dockstader from New Mexico arrived in Scotland for the first time on June 5th for a two week break of sightseeing and of course.. a few days fishing!

On arrival at Glasgow Airport Karen soon realised her luggage which of course included vital fishing gear had been lost somewhere between New Mexico and Scotland!  A trip through the Trossachs and on to Edinburgh was on the cards and fishing was suspended until Saturday.

After a short meeting just off the M8 motorway we headed up to the Glasgow Angling Centre and on to my local urban treasure chest, the River Kelvin.
We tackled up and set off down a path and on to the river, where we were met with a fabulous hatch of large yellow Mayfly.

As the sun was beating down the conditions were very bright and hot.  We walked downstream for a couple hundred yards and found somewhere that was sheltered by overhanging trees and bushes.

The first fish to come to the net was a lovely 12 inch brownie, tempted by one of Karen's American yellow cdc flies. Two about 10 inches and 3 smaller browns were hooked later in the day which provided some excellent Kelvin sport.

After dinner on Great Western Road, Karen set off for a tour of Scotland, returning this Thursday.  We will be back at the Kelvin at the weekend just before her flight back home so will upload more snaps and a report then.
